Aftercare Eyeliner
Immediate Aftercare (First 24 Hours)
- • Blot the Area: Gently blot your eyelids with a clean tissue or cotton pad to remove any excess lymph fluid. This helps to prevent the formation of scabs.
- Avoid Touching: Refrain from touching your eyes with unwashed hands to prevent introducing bacteria and reducing the risk of infection.
- Apply Healing Ointment: If provided by your technician, apply a thin layer of the healing ointment to the area. Do this gently and sparingly.
Days 1-3: Initial Healing
- • Keep the Area Clean: Clean your eyelids with a damp cotton pad soaked in distilled water or a saline solution. Be very gentle to avoid disturbing the pigment.
• Avoid Getting the Area Wet: Try to keep the treated area dry, especially during showers. If the area gets wet, gently pat it dry immediately.
• No Makeup: Avoid applying any eye makeup, including mascara, eyeshadow, and eyeliner, during the healing period. This can introduce bacteria and irritate the skin.
• Do Not Rub or Scratch: It’s normal to experience some itching or tightness as your eyes heal, but resist the urge to rub, scratch, or pick at the area.
Days 4-7: Peeling and Flaking
- • Expect Peeling: Your eyeliner may start to flake or peel slightly. This is a normal part of the healing process, and the color may appear uneven during this time.
• Do Not Pick at Flakes: Let the flakes or scabs fall off naturally. Picking can lead to pigment loss and scarring.
• Continue Moisturising: If your technician advised the use of a healing ointment, continue to apply it as directed. This helps keep the area hydrated and comfortable.
Days 7-10: Continued Healing
- • Avoid Sun Exposure: Protect your eyes from direct sunlight. UV rays can fade the pigment and irritate the healing skin. Wear sunglasses when outdoors.
• Avoid Excessive Sweating: Try to avoid activities that cause excessive sweating, as sweat can irritate the healing area and affect pigment retention.
• No Eye Products: Continue to avoid makeup, lash serums, and any skincare products on the treated area until fully healed.
Weeks 2-4: Final Healing
- • Use Sun Protection: Once the area is fully healed, apply sunscreen to the eyelids when exposed to sunlight to prevent fading.
- Avoid Harsh Skincare Products: Even after healing, be careful with exfoliating products, retinoids, or acids near the eye area.
- Be Gentle with Cleansing: When removing makeup or cleansing your face, be gentle around the eyes to maintain the integrity of the pigment.
Long-Term Care
- Avoid Lash Extensions and Serums: Avoid using lash extensions or growth serums that can affect the longevity of the tattoo, as they can irritate the area and cause premature fading.
- Moisturise Regularly: Keep the area moisturized with a gentle, fragrance-free eye cream to maintain skin health.
- Touch-Up Sessions: Depending on your skin type and lifestyle, you may need a touch-up session within 6-12 months to maintain the desired look.
